Learning is a lived experience.
Meeting the characteristics and needs of the adolescent.
Dr. Montessori described in clear detail the elements necessary for the development of an authentic adolescent community. Our sights are set on successful achievement in meeting these goals which promote the care for ourselves, our environment and our community.
Through a well thought out prepared environment that includes the sensitive periods of the adolescent, the mental, physical, social, technical, and spiritual foci are at the forefront.
“Above all it is the education of adolescents that is important, because adolescence is the time when the child enters on the state of adulthood and becomes a member of society.”
~Dr. Maria Montessori
Our journey began September 2021 and we named our middle school 'Quest' for the very reason that adolescents are on a quest to seek out how they fit into this world. Seemed so fitting. These young adults are learning to be capable, accountable, knowledgeable and to gain a deeper understanding of self.
Our collaboration table is set and prepared for the next day. Students have also created a morning and afternoon routine which establishes a sense of security and belonging to their classroom. Their social skills, self esteem and developmental growth are impacted positively with this consistent responsibility.
